Why is everyone FREAKING OUT on Santana...??? We have won 10 in a row with our ace playing less than stellar...let's think about how great it's going to be when he reaches form!
07/18/2008 2:53AM
Trade with Tigers
Do you think that Marcus Thames would be a good fit for the Mets? He could start this year and then be a power threat off the bench.
07/17/2008 10:25PM
Heilman
He's had some good moments and all the other relievers have had bad ones. But too often Aaron fails.
07/17/2008 6:23PM
of badley
we really need an of
07/17/2008 12:28PM
Edny good glove...not GOLDEN
Edny has 1 error in 87 Total Chances (TC) which is a great percentage but the 87 chances falls far short when there are other OF's who have 1 or 2 errors in 220 TC's.
07/16/2008 2:13PM
travel
if ryan church does come back to play is there any reason he would be prevented to us a train to travel in lieu of flying which may effect his being able to play.
07/16/2008 9:28AM
all star wagner
even though billy wagner gave up a run to the american league you can't give him all blame. they good both were good pitches sometimes you gotta give the hitters credit
07/15/2008 4:53PM
Gold Glove
Eventhough he is not a "full time" player, Endy Chavez should be considered for a gold glove. Is there anyone better?
07/14/2008 4:15PM
the best ever!
the mets are the best. they won nine in a row. start printing playoff tickets immedietly. wait lets go one better while we are in la,la,land start printing world series tickets. the mets are the greatest team ever. i'am getting teary eyed just thinking about the great mets. oh man. the mets may not lose the rest of the year. oh my eyes can't believe what i've been watching. what an honor to witness the greatest team of all time.
07/14/2008 11:12AM
Bonds
the man's reputation in the clubhouse alone would be a cancer for this team especially now that the mets have their focus on winning!..
do NOT sign him to do anything but sell hot dogs in the stands so fans can tell them how they really feel about thishas been cheater!
07/13/2008 5:40PM
BONDS
Make the most sense even know i would rather have someone else he is a free agent
07/13/2008 2:16PM
Payton
Why not get Payton from Balt for a minor (and I mean MINOR) league prospect. He bats righty...has played in NY...wont cost a mint. He and Chavez platooning in LF is not really all that crazy.
07/13/2008 1:31PM
Where would we be?
If the Mets listened to certain people Wright would be gone, Reyes would be gone, Beltran would be gone. Thank goodness they did not panic (like certain fans did) because as of now the team is one good day out of FIRST PLACE and that "scrub...non clutch" Wright gathered 70 RBI's batted a shade under 290 and...errr...got nearly 2 million votes for ALL STAR and was picked by Clint to be an ALL STAR. I guess that all these things mean nothing in your world because only what you think actually counts.
07/12/2008 10:25PM
BONDS
IF BONDS BECOMES A MET I WILL NO LONGER BE A MET FAN
07/12/2008 11:50AM
Re: BONDS
Somehow a few words were left off the posting and made no sense. The posting should of read "I would rather go thru another Sept of 07 than to have Bonds in a NY METS uniform..etc"
07/12/2008 9:18AM
retired
get barry bonds
07/11/2008 3:24PM
RE : Barry Bonds
Put Barry in the 3 hole of the lineup and you are guarenteed a World Series appearance. Last year is OBP was .480. No Met will come close to that this year. He will drive in a ton of runs with Reyes in front of him and give Wright a man on base to hitwith. It make s too much sense!
07/11/2008 3:22PM
RE: RE: Can We Finally Have the Correct Lineup, Coach?
Not bad. Unlike many Met fans, I still have faith in Delgado but I like your lineup suggestion with Delgado in the 7 hole. Lets Go Mets.
07/11/2008 10:06AM
Bonds
I hate Barry Bonds. It makes me sick that we are even talking about the idea of him coming here. He is a locker room cancer.
07/10/2008 10:20PM
Bonds
I would rather go thru another Sept Bonds in a NY METS uniform. This organization has been very clean and should remain that way. The METS need focus not DISTRACTION.
07/09/2008 11:39PM
RE: RE: Can We Finally Have the Correct Lineup, Coach?
You are correct that person had no idea what they were talking about but you obviously had some flaws this is what the order should look like 1-Reyes,2-Chavez,3-Beltran,4-Wright,5-Church,6-Easly,7-Delgado,8-Castro Now there is only one thing that I may change Church and Easly may be interchangeable because of Easly's hot streak I may switch them if Easly slows down
07/09/2008 3:56PM
Barry Bonds
Get him!! Do it!!! Sure, we don't like him,but he scares pitchers and his plus side is positive.
07/09/2008 3:44PM
Perry and the Spitball
If I'm remembering correctly, that 1964 extra innings game is where Gaylord Perry "discovered" he could throw the spitball. I think it would become the KY or the Vasoline ball depending what was in the clubhouse at the time :)
07/08/2008 4:24PM
Family Member
Wayne Hagin. A wonderful part of our family. We love you so much. Can't wait to see you soon. Good luck!
07/08/2008 2:50PM
kenny lofton
how about adding kenny lofton to the mets it wouldnt take anything to get him since he is a free agent he has post season experience and can hit in the 2 hole or 8 hole plus he might be better then any left fielder we have right now
07/08/2008 1:14PM
RE: Can We Finally Have the Correct Lineup, Coach?
You obviously have never watch a baseball game in your life with that lineup. Chavez batting 5th? Church batting 3rd? Beltran 2nd? Here is what the Met lineup should be (les Alou because he is never there): 1- Reyes ss, 2-Chavez lf, 3- Beltran cf, 4-Wright 3b, 5- Delgado 1b, 6- Easly 2b, 7- Church rf, 8- Castro c
But then again, Church is still injured. Boy they miss Alou who they never really had!
07/07/2008 10:55PM
Angel
Where is Angel Pagan? Is he injured or not? Or is he in limbo with managemet? He would help with the offensive as well as defense.
07/07/2008 8:31PM
Mets let's go already
Now after taking 3 of 4 from the Phillies, let's take over the NL East already.
07/07/2008 8:30PM
Let's Build
With the way the METS have been so inconsistent this year, they should now stay focused and build from taking 3 of 4 from the Phillies. There, no excuses!
07/07/2008 8:26PM
Consistency Please
The METS should now build on taking 3 of 4 from the Phillies and play consistent ball for the remainder of the season.
07/07/2008 5:13PM
Regarding the Correct linup
A correct lineup wouldn't have Castillo batting in the 8 spot doing his 1st pitch fake bunt followed by his wimpy little slap swings. The only thing Castillo should be slapping is Easley's back for actually producing when he is in the lineup taking hisstarting spot at 2nd baseproducing
07/07/2008 12:53PM
Trade
It is time, while he is pitching well, to trade Ollie Perez. Trade him straight up for a young OFer. Matt Kemp maybe, he may be availible, and the Dodgers want pitching.
07/06/2008 6:10AM
mets
This season is over. This team is far too inconsistent to go anywhere but the basement of the divison.
after Johan swung at that 3rd pitch in the 5th inning, I would have nailed the bat to his shoulder.
07/05/2008 1:52PM
Church Bell Unrung?
Can any person tell me why Church was not in the order Friday night against the Phillies? Manual said it was to get him some rest. I might be wrong but I believe Church was rested for 5 weeks. Your ace on the mound who has gotten no run support and you have a call up playing (or misplaying a line drive) in left field while the apparently "over played" Church rests? Or was this more sinister....could that abysmal move actually be punishment for Santana stating the truth "I can't do it all". Also how can the Major League Manager say that he "Is not up on that" when asked about Passucci (minor league standout)????
07/04/2008 11:51PM
Mets Stink
Another Santana start another Mets loss. I dont want to hear about the run support. He throws a 2 hit shutout and then cant get a 3rd out in the 6th? THis team is done, they arent making this "run" everyone speaks of. Revamp, I dont need to see Reyes or Beltran next year. They are the culprits behind the collapse, and Beltran leading the way in game 7.
07/04/2008 9:48PM
Beltran is the difference
Once Betran gets his fire back the Mets will be unstoppable. We have to give him time. I know he will pull through this.
07/04/2008 10:17AM
time to fix Mets and WIN
alou off DL only comes off bench to hit. trade heilman for shelly duncan(LF/1st base) to platoon with Delgado and Chavez. Release Marlin Anderson, Trot Nixon and bring up young bats with speed (experience if nothing else). IF Mets crapp out before allstar break- then OMAR must go. It wasn't willie, the team didn't rebound... and once the mgr is gone- the GM takes the hot seat. WIN OR GO HOME OMAR.
07/03/2008 10:26PM
Mr Wright
You have been all wrong swinging at the first pitch all the time now, you look stupid because your not Mosis, Mosis figures if you swing at everything he's bound to hit something and he's better at it you better at working the count so get you head outof you bum and lets get your arm more true to first base. Come on lets go Mets, I cain't hear you, LET'S GO METS, LET'S GO METS, LET'S GO METS
07/03/2008 10:13PM
Mr Pelfrey
Way to go Mike I believe thats 4 in a row now, thats why he was a #1 pick, and coming through just when we needed him, especially since Johan is doing so so and Pedro hasn't been what we expected him to be when he came back. Good job Mike, OUTSTANDING!
07/03/2008 4:07PM
Padres series
It was all over after that four bagger!! Mets will have to do a total U-turn starting tonite to even have a sniff at the division. It won't happen.
07/03/2008 2:35PM
so far same dreck
titanic, maine, bismark once great ships but they all were sunk. so the team as it is now structured will also sink, hurry get the bailing buckets glob glob
07/03/2008 9:22AM
Danielcvn
Mets suck
07/03/2008 9:21AM
Dan
I am so tired of going to bed with a lead and waking uop with a lost. we need to shake up this team NOW
07/03/2008 9:11AM
No more bernazard
If the mets want to compete and have chem in the dugout at the sametime, they must get rid of bernazard
07/03/2008 8:07AM
No More Omar
Has Omar seen enough of his great signings of old out of prime ball players.Alou got hurt taking out his AARP card yesterday
07/03/2008 1:46AM
Battle Cry
Willie had "we battled" after every loss, now Manuel has "we competed" how about JUST WIN SOME GAMES???
07/03/2008 1:02AM
Jerry who?
I guess we got Willie II / new name, same game.
07/03/2008 12:46AM
no h20
met's no chem
07/02/2008 3:34PM
Shake up the Lineup
Reyes 1
Church 2
Beltran 3
delgado 4
wright 5
Alou 6
Schneider 7
Castillo 8
This should be better than what they have.
07/02/2008 12:34PM
Fair Weather Fans
.288...16....65...50 and 8...Yeah what we really need to do is get rid of David Wright...NOT!
07/01/2008 1:11PM
Don't give up on Heilman
Hey Jerry, the kids been telling Willie and Rick he wants to start. You need starters soooo give it a try. I still see Don Drysdale when he pitches, now with Peterson gone he can throw heat with the occaisional change up, challenge hitters and not nibble.
07/01/2008 12:53PM
Better result this year
We won't have to worry about the greatest collapse in baseball history this season - the Mets will not be close.
07/01/2008 9:03AM
re:mets will be fine
i don't know what mets team you are watching but they will definitely not win the division.
06/30/2008 11:16PM
Addition by subtraction
Bill Parcells said it best,"You are what your record says you are." We have little value in the farm system. Trade Pedro, Billy, Schoenstein, Perez, Feliciano, or some bench. for value. I wan't Micah Hoffpauir, 1B from the Cubs.
06/30/2008 7:58PM
Billy Wagner
Man. I don't care what you say, Billy Wagner scares the life out of me. Between him and johan Santana I age a lot . PS Pedro is no calming influence either.
06/30/2008 4:55PM
Need Power
The Mets need to pick up a bat. They are soft in the power category. Second base, shortstop, catcher, left field may yield 20 or so home runs. That is just not enough. If they can pick up on their power outage they will be fine.
06/30/2008 12:48PM
Mets will be fine
Mets will win the national league east. However with there over rated pitching staff they will not do well in the playoffs.
06/30/2008 12:29PM
Way to go
A 2-4 homestand (remember the other game was on the road at Hankee Stadium) should do a lot to build fan support. Hey Jerry, keep up the good work, you are starting to make Willie look good.
06/30/2008 12:00PM
pedro
since the mets bullpen seems to fall apartment every other day and pedro can only pitch 4 good innings anyway why not but him in the bullpen
06/30/2008 11:49AM
They are what they are
At 40-41, the Mets are what they are, or what Omar made them. Where was plan B for the aging 40 year old left fielder who never plays more than 100 games. Or for the 36 year old first baseman with 3 consecutive years of decreasing productivity. Or the aging second baseman, with aging legs, with no range, and oh by the way a 4 year contract. Oh right, we have all those major league ready monir league stars. Oh right, we have no minor leaguers to call up, except retreads.
06/30/2008 10:49AM
Valentine
the mets have been in a tail spin ever since Jose Valentine went out with his broken leg last year. We need his leadership back.
06/30/2008 10:34AM
Wright needs to be on first in 09
As one of Wrights biggest fans i can say that he is starting to embarrass himself with his arm. He has great range and has never had a problem fielding it, but he just cant make the throws. HE DOESNT HAVE A THIRD BASE ARM!!! Anyone whos even watched halfthe mets games this year has seen him sail a dozen throws toward the dugout that delgado has saved him with a swipe tag on the runner.. this needs to happen
06/30/2008 9:25AM
Teixeira! Teixeira
Let's start a campaign now to encourage Wilpon to sign Teixeira! Omar make it happen!
06/30/2008 8:29AM
Mets Stink
I don't care that they are three games out, they STILL STINK!!
06/30/2008 2:15AM
jose needs help
jose is definatley adhd or something to that nature...
06/30/2008 2:02AM
Reyes Comeuppance
Here's what Jose's teammates need to do:
Gather his locker belongings and stuff them in a cardboard box, then hoist them atop the Shea scoreboard!
06/30/2008 2:00AM
Reyes Comeuppance
Here is what Jose's teammates need to do:
Empty his locker, putting everything in a cardboard box and hoist it atop the Shea scoreboard. If that doesn't work, repeat and find another place to stash his stuff.
06/29/2008 10:44PM
woahh lets not go crazy
pedro alittle better then glavine at this point lol
06/29/2008 6:14PM
reyes
Who ever thinks reyes should be traded is crazy
06/29/2008 6:13PM
REYES
who ever thinks reyes should be traded is crazy. he is one of the best shortstops in Baseball
06/29/2008 12:10PM
old jerks
why don't the mets apply for social security, they look old tony more pompano beach fl
06/29/2008 12:00PM
What is wrong with Reyes?
How has the player who was called "best in the league" by some now all of a sudden "slightly above average". Do you remember what did in Dwight Gooden? sounds very familiar
06/29/2008 11:49AM
An honest Yankee fan...
I am a die-hard Yankee fan, but I do not hate the Mets. As a Yankee fan, looking at the whole Mets situation... I can not understand what is going on with Jose Reyes. Last year, he was the spark. He was even drawing comparisons to Derek Jeter. However, this year, he has been so inconsistent. And the ironic thing about it is... so are the Mets as a whole this year. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I noticed the change in Reyes' game not long after he received his new contract. Also, Johan Santana is doing fine this year. You can't expect him to give up just one run every game. Plus, running blunders are not his fault.
06/29/2008 11:44AM
Bring Back '86
The '86 Mets had heart and money. This team simply plays for money and not well. Bring back '86.
06/29/2008 11:15AM
Dumb Organization
That's what the Mets have always been. Julio Franco/El Duque and this bunch of rag-tag bench players, manager & GM. Please enough already.Should have kept Piazza in some capacity.
06/29/2008 9:48AM
Reyes the Showoff
On Saturday Jose Reyes got so involved in head games with Petit that he forsaked the team in order to showoff his "SKILLS". In retrospect I am glad that Petit nailed him. His childish state of mind must stop. There was absolutly no reason for him tobe breaking on that pitch. Tony Paige said it best "It was Wrights at bat and Reyes stole it from him" a statement that I agree with totally.
06/29/2008 1:54AM
An american brand of baseball!
What does it mean to play our type of baseball? Instead of relying so much on natural tallent, we rely more upon our brains. We consider the circumstance of a situation. Will someone please teach our spanish speaking and others how to play the american brand of baseball. If not we may need to trade those players.
06/29/2008 1:42AM
Reyes
"I'm a base stealer so that happens a lot" (about being picked off again) NO! You stupid moron. It happens a lot if you go to steal 2nd, not trying to steal 3rd down by one run with the #3 hitter up, when you score from 2nd anyway on a base hit. And theres 2 out, so getting to 3rd doesnt score you on a sac. I hate this guy. Cna we please ship him out of here??? And this Chump Sanatan better pick it up also. Bobby Jones and Armando Reynoso were better than this.
06/28/2008 3:47PM
ray
Delgardo got his hits against a minor league pitcher ,a pitcher sent down to the minors after the game and a guy who is about to be released.
06/28/2008 10:01AM
chaiioooo pedro!!!
Is it me or is pedro very much like glavine used to be a huge star now just playing for numbers, can we please can him while we can send him and oliver back on the bannana boat
06/27/2008 7:31PM
turn around
Its time to turn this thing around baby!!!
06/27/2008 7:14PM
Met's Rule
About time Delgado
06/27/2008 5:41PM
Delgad-whoa
So can a performance like this, during the most important stretch of the season for the mets, save a season, and a roster spot for Carlos????
06/26/2008 1:04PM
Great season!
I think the Mets are doing great. I am happy to se it. I think Delgado should play in every game. Let's go Yankees!
06/25/2008 5:45PM
Tear Down Shea Now
and take the wrecking ball to this team too.
06/25/2008 1:04PM
Bring Back Bobby V
It will never happen but one could wish
06/25/2008 1:01PM
visa versa
the phils and the mets were this way only visa versa the mets will come on and win the pen this yr and the phils will fire their mgr next yr
06/25/2008 11:45AM
WHY?
Why are we paying good money to see a substandard overpaid bunch of losers? We have no left feilder no 1st baseman, and no bullpen. Lets not get started on the starting pitching. Repeat after me, "500 at best."
06/25/2008 10:51AM
Mets replacements
IF HoJo goes Omar MUST bring in Mike Piazza to replace him. Two reasons, First the fans still love him and second I think the players will respond to him. Also their might actually be some fans watching the games not paid attendance but people in the stands. It looks like about 40% of the paid attendance does not even show up for games. Can't say I blame them I too am getting tired of the loosing ways of this team.
06/25/2008 10:25AM
The Met Jet
The only difference between the Two is the letter M and J
06/24/2008 11:24PM
The future
When is it time to throw in the towel on this season and start calling up prospects?
06/24/2008 10:57PM
Curveballed
Can someone teach David Wright how to hit a curve ball? Hojo, what the hell are you doing? Take care of this problem ASAP. Oh, I forgot. Hojo couldn't hit a curve ball either.
06/24/2008 10:43PM
The Met change
Has anyone ever noticed that the Mets can't hit any pitch other than a fastball? Whenever they face a pitcher who throws "soft stuff", aka A breaking ball, the Mets turn that pitcher into Sandy Koufaz
06/24/2008 10:21PM
History being repeated
So, how's the new manager working out? He sure has alot of funny lines, but the team is actually playing worse. It reminds me of when they fired Davey and had years in the second division. They fired Bobby V. and had Art Howe, need I say more. Whenyou fire a winning manager all you do is lose. Change is not always for the better. And change for the sake of change is always worse.
06/23/2008 11:18PM
Let's go
Hit the ball
06/23/2008 9:41PM
Doubleplays??
I'm not a big stat guy......but i was wondering if the Mets hit into any double plays with two outs yet.
06/23/2008 9:49AM
underachieving?
everyone says the mets have underachieved. maybe they achieved as much as they possibly can. maybe they are playing as good as they possibly could.
06/23/2008 6:52AM
stop allready
willie is out lets move on the haven't been able to get out of there own way since the 80's. being a met fan is like enjoying self mutilation.
06/22/2008 9:56PM
Mets dont have the talent
Just look at the stats of the mets player compared to the rest of the league. The stats don't lie, the mets just are not as good as people think they are. They are a .500 team and that is where they are. They will not make the playoffs without some serious trades, which I have no idea how they can pull that off with no major league ready players in the minors. They have to hope for some good free agents and make a run in 2009.
06/22/2008 9:48PM
Good Riddance Willie
Why did it take this long? Thank God he's gone!
06/22/2008 12:32PM
Back to The Yankees
Willie Shouls?will be back with the Yankees soon.
06/22/2008 11:51AM
I am not everyone
Not everyone was calling for Willie to get fired. Stop talking for me as I am more than capable of speaking for myself. Willie's firing has more to do with the media and talking heads than his record as manager (which by the way was a winning record). And how many managers have been fired after winning 3 out of 4 games. Seems to me Omar and Tony were afraid Willie would turn it around this year. That was something they couldn't take because maybe Willie would get more credit than they would.
06/21/2008 12:59PM
whats the phone number?
for the giveaway
06/21/2008 9:47AM
Omars A Liar
Anyone with any common sense could see Omars a LIAR. His body language was terrible, could not stand stiil, shaking a bottle of water, stammering all over himself, and if you listened carefully, contradicted himself a number of times. All signs of a lying, incompetent man in over his head. Lets call the phones at Shea and demand his demise before he screws up the Mets before the new stadium is up and running. One more thing, anybody can sign free agents if you throw enough money at them. Look at this idiots track record.
06/21/2008 7:57AM
way off eddie.
im sitting here listening to richard neer say maybe willie should have had a little fun or a prank every now and then. dude, wake up. willie has no personality. willies first year was a getting to know you year. once they knew him, they knew he was stiff, thin skinned and a square. the person that kept things lose was the 45 year old bench player, which i cannot remember his name. please people, wake up. this team is the best in 4 years and they are under 500, that is a fact. you can be 2feet tall, green and smell, but if you are liked, they will follow. willie was not liked.
06/21/2008 7:17AM
Rat fink Bernazard
Fire this loser,he will still be a rat now turning on Manual. Hopefully Jerry throws him out of the dougout. Are the wilpons seeing any of this? or are they still sleeping.
06/20/2008 11:52PM
GO METS
4 1/2 out!!
06/20/2008 9:09PM
The reason for a dysfunctional Mets team
I do not think that it is a far fetched thought that Minaya's assistant Tony Bernizard, (escuse the spelling) but he is the cancer of this team. He is the "source" that Omar mentioned in his press conference. He needs to go, and let this talented team be. His influence is nothing but selfish and wrong and his thoughts and alterior motives have destroyed great chemistry in the clubhouse. If you remember back to last year not too soon before the collapse, the nationals were in town and there was an entire thing about the contact at shea with the players and Acta, Minaya's assistant was behind that. Willie tried to stop it, and it was downhill since then. ~Jennifer
06/20/2008 1:18PM
Bernazard has to go!
All I am seeing of him as being a big trouble maker. As far as him being a great farm system builder. I DON"T THINK SO! If you want him as your GM you need your head examined. NO WAY.
06/20/2008 12:57PM
RE Willie is better off
Yeah, it is like Jeter being a Yankee. He isn't all about the money so he really ahould be on another team. You hit it on the head!
06/19/2008 3:54PM
Willie is better off
The Mets did Willie a big favor by firing him. Willie being a Met is like Sinatra singing at a Karaoke bar!

Willie and The Lakers
With the Lakers doing a no show in game 7 in Boston, and Willie being fired in Anaheim why didn't they save everyone all that flying and let Kobi manage the Mets and Willie play the Celtics?
06/19/2008 2:14PM
willie
Alright fellas willie makes 2 million for this year am i right? and still getting paid for sitting at home watching the price is right :[ SIGN ME up for that job i wouldn't care if i was fired in Gautama
06/19/2008 1:51PM
Players
Since the Mets (or any other team in MLB can not fire 25 players - they usually fire the manager/coaches. This mess is on the players not performing, and the GM signing older vets (I.E. Alou) They need to get younger in the key positions and get rid ofpeople like Delgado, Castilla, Alou, etc.
06/19/2008 11:27AM
triple a
get rid of all the overpaid losers and bring up the kids who still play with their hearts not with their wallets
06/19/2008 10:44AM
Mets 4 Ever!!!
Willie got fired, the world didn't come to an end, the sun came up today. What Willie needs 2 do is get away from the game until 2009 and seriously he should go on "Dancing w/ The Stars" in September. They have had boxers, NFL players, tennis stars, race car drivers and NBA players dance why not a baseball person?
06/19/2008 10:05AM
poor willie
enough already everyone wanted willie gone
06/18/2008 11:09PM
Omar better watch out
Omar is going to find a knife in his back one of these days, and Tony Bernazard is going to be twisting it in.
06/18/2008 10:30PM
Is Jerry just saying what he thinks we want to hear.
Okay so first I here he doesn't mind a pitcher pitching past 100 pitches something like 120 and now he says he will rest key players (wright, reyes, beltran) during road games sounds to hear but, makes no sense at all to me...starting pitchers pitching longer I mean I know the bullpen stinks but how are they suppose to get stronger(bullpen) and key batters not playing on the road where percentage wise is harder to win. I mean I'm all for seeing key players more at home but not at the cost of a lost at home...
06/18/2008 9:39PM
willie's firing
why is everyone so surprised everyone was asking for his head what does it matter if it happened early in the morning or late at nite he desrved to be fired there was no motivation maybe change will be good if not then we will get the right man for the job
06/18/2008 7:30PM
TONY THE RAT BERNAZARD
Tony the rat should be fired, and omar was lying through his teeth about Willie and how it was handled and tony the rat and Willies relationship. Wilpons the time is now to wakeup and fire those 2 clowns tony the rat and omar the terrible.
06/18/2008 7:28PM
That yankee legacy!
The same reason I did not want Willie, as mets manager, was the very reason I believed in him. His yankee history!
06/18/2008 7:20PM
I have not cryed like this in so long!
Willie Randolph, was a status symbol for so many young Americans, who are Mets fans. He is for them, that mediphorical shinny gold medalion worn accross the chest with pride. Now besides their parents, who do they have on the Mets to look to?
06/18/2008 6:48PM
That's it!
For those of you who think that we should just get over it and move on, "Hell No "!
06/18/2008 6:46PM
That's it!
I have seen enough from this sorry franchise. I have been a Mets fan sence 1968, but after this firing I will stand with the yankees. And to think, I never even wanted willie as our manager.
06/18/2008 6:28PM
Willie
What a mess they made of this whole Willie firing. No man should have been treated this way. Having him tralvel 3000 miles to get fired. Omar should be next if they don't make at least the World Series.
06/18/2008 6:06PM
you have 2 believe
let's go mets!
06/18/2008 4:34PM
Trade Wright
He is not a leader and not a player you build a team around. At least as Reyes goes, so goes the Mets. Can't say the same for Wright. He can't carry a team with a 140 million dollar payroll how is he going to lead the "down" years?????
06/18/2008 4:34PM
Omar
he came across like a bit of a bumbling fool yesterday. he repeated the same things so many times that i had to shut him off for a while even though i was hungry for information. he way obviously lying about it being his decision to fire willie. after listening to him i lost confidence in him.
06/18/2008 1:40PM
Basic Problem with Mets
The basic problem with the Mets is Jose Reyes. He has not matured as a player or a person. He is the main reason the Mets went South last year and he is the main reason they are floundering this year. It wasn't Willie, it was Jose, Jose, Jose.
06/18/2008 1:11PM
TRADE
Send Pedro to the Yankees for Shelly Duncan. Release Delgado and set a new tone. Yankees are in need of Pedro and will go big time after Teixeria the would do it. This trade works for both teams and turns the page on Delgado
06/18/2008 12:35PM
Comedy of Errors
Randolph is a stand up guy. I wish him the best. As for the rest of your team, this guy from NJTP exit 4 loves the show. Keep it up all the way until October!
06/18/2008 12:23PM
Trade REYES
Trade Reyes to the Red Sox for Jacoby Ellsbury strait up
06/18/2008 11:14AM
Next Move
Fire Omar, the Sell the team!
06/18/2008 11:04AM
Waldman Speaks
During last nights Yankees game (yeah I listen to them when the Mets are not on) Suzann Waldman was talking about Willie and the the way he was fired. She said (paraphrasing) If Omar only made up his mind Monday morning I would like him to explain why front office people of other teams told me Who, When and Who the replacements were going to be on FRIDAY. If this is true Omar pulled a "Clinton" (minus the finger wave) during his "ONLY ON MONDAY" speech.
06/18/2008 9:34AM
Move on
Okay, so, Omar handled it poorly, who cares? The real focus should be on the guys actually playing the game...Delgado, Castillo, Reyes, and the rest of the team who can't get it together. Truth is, people get fired everyday, don't you think Omar was advised by Jay Horowitz on how to handle this? They obviously knew this would create a media frenzy. I think we need to retool on the right side of the infield if we are going to be serious contenders in the future, since this year is a complete waste.
06/18/2008 2:53AM
Back Stabbers
Met Fans. We are going to find out that you can't have your cake and eat it too.
06/18/2008 1:12AM
REYES
The way Reyes acted last night in the first inning is EXACTLY whats wrong with the Mets. After all the changing of the Manager, you'd think these players could give Jerry Manuel a break, but no. He has to deal with this immature garbage right away. Get Reyes outta here, we can get something good in return and ut seems he will NEVER grow up.
PS....Santana 7-5, this is what we paid for?
06/18/2008 12:24AM
Willie Randolph
Willie Randolph is a class act. He just got caught up in an organization that lacks class, starting with the Wilpons and Minaya.
The way he was terminated lacks class and integrity.
In my opinion, Minaya is a liar and let Willie go to cover his own mistakes and incompetence.
When any team fails in business, the manager is the first one to go. It comes with the turf.
Now Minaya has no one to blame except, guess who?
I'd like to see him get lost but that's not for me to decide. Fate has a way of taking care of that.
Good luck Willie, you're better off.
06/18/2008 12:01AM
Pathetic
Should Willie have been fired? Yes... But it should have been done after being swept by the Padres. To make the guy fly 3000 miles and coach a WINNING game..have a press conference saying how things were looking up...and then you kick him to the curb.....Omar and the Wilpons are a joke in the world of baseball and Minaya should be the next to go
06/17/2008 11:22PM
The fall guy.
I believe that willie was brought in here to fail by the wilpons. Why else would they hire a manager and not let him hire his own staff? Just because they have some token jesture of remembering Jackie Robinson day, doesn't mean that they are not whitesupremist. Why would they treat willie with such disrespect, offering lowest wages to manage a major market team?
06/17/2008 10:31PM
CULTURE ISSUE
The Met issues are related to Willie Randolph, but the cultural problems of the many hispanic players on the team as it relates to Willie, non hispanics and Omar. Willie Racial comments were an attempt to reflect that issue, not black white ones!
06/17/2008 9:47PM
tom Nieto
What did Tom Nieto have to do with this? I think Willie should have been fired October 1st 2007 and it was wrong to keep him on the short leash. I think it wasn't all Willie fault but the skipper must go down with the ship. Now Minaya is on the radar big time.
06/17/2008 9:28PM
Go Forward
Willie was handed the ball, he didn't run with it. Omar should be ashamed of himself. How short is Jerry's rope?
06/17/2008 9:15PM
Should Have Been Done After THE COLLAPSE
A little too late but we;ll take it. Peterson the Guru is finally gone!
06/17/2008 8:51PM
We look like Fools
The Mets organization really does not know how to handle anything, they did a horrible job trying to move piazza to first and did another horrible job firing Randolph. Minaya sounded like a fool with Mike and Dog today!
06/17/2008 8:50PM
The Pitch count is dead!
Good riddance to Rick "I can Fix Him" Peterson- He had the whole organization under his spell.
No more ridiculous pitch counts. Willie is a class guy but like Leo Durocher said "nice guys finish last". Maybe we can get rid of the righty lefty switch too- I f a guy is hot, let him play!
Lets go back to "old time Baseball!!!
06/17/2008 8:45PM
Bye Bye Rick!
Finally, Rick " I can fix him" Peterson is gone! Hopefully the pitch count is gone- We would have talked Willie into taking out Santana during a no- hitter. and maybe this also ,eans goodbye to the "righty-lefty" switch- if a guy is hot, let him playregardless. LETS GO METS!!!
06/17/2008 8:45PM

Willie and the Mets
I do believe that a change had to happen. I just wonder what would of happened if Willie had a ML Baseball pitching coach in place of Mr. Peterson? I keep looking for the MLB experience that Peterson has and it's very limited on the Major League level
06/17/2008 8:29PM
Terry Leach
Dear Omar,
Why did you sign Luis Castillon to a 4 year contract?
06/17/2008 8:17PM
A Disheartened Fan
It can be argued that Willie had to go. I'm personally sorry that he was fired and the press conference this afternoon was a disgrace. It would be nice to see Omar get a pink slip. And while it is naive to think there will be any repurcussions for those on the 25 man roster, I for one, would embrace seeing a shake up among the every day players. If this was the corporate world they would have been fired a long time ago for not producing. What a waste of millions of dollars. The Mets would surely get what they deserve if things still don't get turned around on someone else's watch.
06/17/2008 8:15PM
Re:Re: willie
Look at www.nymets.com. The new stadium is Citi Field, not Citi Park. That's Field as in ballFIELD. So, before calling someone names, get your facts correct. Oh, your a Mets fan where facts like Willie being the second winningest manager (percentagewise) in team history means he's a bad manager.
06/17/2008 8:15PM
where have all the starrs gone?
Where are all the African-American role models on the Mets team gone? The Goodins, jones,Aggees,Strawberrys, wilsons, ect.
06/17/2008 8:11PM
omar to blame
the problem with this team was they never responded to willie ..the reason for this i believe is if you don't have the talent you cannot respond...this is a leadership problem with the players as well..the mets have no corner outfield , a first baseman and second baseman on the downward side of their careers, a mediocre bullpen , two young starters that over achieved last year..omar is to blame for this dibacle...
06/17/2008 8:02PM
classless act!
Do you think that Met ownership was trying to humiliate the African-American community by hiring a black manager, while scriping him of any real power in the dougout;just to have Omar eventally fire him for all to see how powerless he was. I feel so HUMILIATED as an African-American male living in america today. I have been a Mets fan sence 1968, but not ever again!
06/17/2008 7:55PM
Re: Time to Move On
Speak for yourself, I wasn't embarrassed. Maybe it's because I remember being out of races in May in so many years. Hey, what embarrasses me is being identified with fans like you. So, after winning 3 out of 4 and playing their hearts out is the time to fire Willie so be it. But, let's hold Jerry to the same rules. Remember, if he wins 3 out of 4 he must be fired.
06/17/2008 7:50PM
The Fireing of willie Randolph
I agree with Chris Carlin and many others who say It was handle the wrong way . I liked what Jerry Manual said about Omar NOT wanting to fire willie or any one with his uniform on, He joked Well want Omar comes looking for me well I'll keep my Uniform on I'll even wear It home. H.A. H.A. H.A.
06/17/2008 7:42PM
Embarrasment
I agree with the firing of Willie. I just can't agree with the way it was handle. Very unprofessional and a total embarrasment for me as a Mets fan. They deserve to lose everygame from now on and Minalla should get the ax too
06/17/2008 7:42PM
Racism
Hispanic GM, allowed his Asst. GM who is also Hispanic to undermine Willie. His players a Majority hispanic's never stood up for the manager the way he defended those bums.
06/17/2008 7:18PM
Dear Wilpons
Omar has all the class of a street pimp and he talks like one too. When is the Omar experiment going to end?
06/17/2008 6:44PM
Time to Move on
It was time for a change fellow Met Fans. C'mon - How soon we forget the disgraceful collapse of last fall, and the embarrassment we all, as Met fans had to endure. And, hey, Willie's a good guy - but that hideous collapse was on Willie's watch. Let's move on!
06/17/2008 6:39PM
New Game: Pass the Blame
I don't think they should have fired Randolph in the middle of the season. The problem with the Mets is that they are seriously lacking stability. You throw a curve ball like this and they're going to collapse even more than they already have. Of course, this is Major League Baseball and Minaya HAS to blame somebody rather than himself... Ever since they lost their playoff berth in '07 these guys can't handle the pressure of playing on a baseball diamond. This was an undignified and demeaning way of letting Willie go. It's not just the coaching, it's the players, and most importantly, it's the MANAGEMENT.
06/17/2008 6:38PM
Anthony NJ
quit the whining, the Mets did what they had to do. There is no correct way to fire someone.
06/17/2008 6:36PM
HA!
Beautiful sunny day in Philadelphia today!
"As I told chu-- wait, I mean.. like I said.. It's a tough decision on dis.. like I said, chu-know, look as i sdaid before.. wait, it's like I said... first of all.." -O.M.
Brilliant!
06/17/2008 6:29PM
Who's fault is it?
Who traded away Brian Bannister, Henry Owens, Matt Lindstrom and Heath Bell? Who signed Moises Alou and Pedro Martinez who have spent more time on the DL than playing? Who signed Julio Franco? All the players traded away would have had a significant roleon the team. Willie is not perfect but he has to deal with the chips Omar gives him. An aging bench is not enough to replace injury prone players. So who's fault really is it?
06/17/2008 6:14PM
Fire the real incompetent!
Fire Omar Minaya the general manager. Accountability should start with him!
06/17/2008 6:03PM
Metfan since 1962
Lets just play baseball for crying out loud.People get fired everyday!!! I;m sure his mortgage is getting paid.
06/17/2008 5:55PM
Here's my rant
It's BUSCH league. BUSCH. Let me repeat. B-U-S-C-H. As in a BEER league. Apparantly people say things without any idea what the heck the meaning behind it is. Holy.
As for the Mets, this is disgusting. I am humiliated to be a Mets fan today.
06/17/2008 5:53PM
Classless move
Very embarrased to be a Met fan today...Very sad how the organization handled this matter. Could have fired him weeks ago or could have just waited another week
06/17/2008 5:31PM
what a coward
why is omar standing there not answering why he let willie go on this trip to get fired right away
06/17/2008 5:26PM
Sorry for Willie
I know Willie had to go but the way they did it shows no class.
06/17/2008 5:24PM
Minaya is NO Cashman
I just relocated to Florida two weeks ago from Massapequa Park. I miss my NY Mets so much already. But I am watching Mike and the Mad Dog on Direct TV live right now and Omar Minaya is talking about Willie Randolph being fired. Believe me when I tell you that this man NEEDS to go to a class in order to learn HOW TO TALK to the media. He sounds like someone off the streets who doesn't know how to speak! I am very sorry to put it in this light, but Omar needs to learn how to speak to the media. Maybe he should put everything in writing first and do NOT talk to the reporters. Maybe Omar should have been fired before Willie Randolph!
06/17/2008 5:22PM
MSG Mess
Omar didnt want Fire Willie to be the new Fire Isiah.
06/17/2008 5:21PM
Bunch of cowards!
Embarrassed to be a long-time Met fan today! The Yankees have their messes, but I think the way this was handled tops it all!
06/17/2008 5:21PM
Met's Girl
Another sad day in the history of the NY Met's... for any baseball fan, a very sad day. Disgrace! Manaya is a disgrace -Willy deserves a lot more respect. Omar has lost my respect! Boo! I hope he gets his when he is 3000 miles from home!
06/17/2008 5:19PM
15 Game Losing Streak
So, Omar, if the Mets lose 15 straight under Manual he gets to stay; but if Willie lost 15, he would have to go. Brilliant logic.
06/17/2008 5:19PM
Halos Logo
Why is Omar giving his press conference in front of an Angels logo.I know that he is in anaheim...but c'mon. This is a Mets press conference. How can the fans connect with this team when Omar can't even procure a step and repeat.
06/17/2008 5:18PM
Mets
Last night I watched my game as a Mets fan.I cannot root for a team that is this classless. Omar was the one who should have been fired for putting together this average team .Please sell the team Wilpon's. Brian Cashman should be the new G.M.
06/17/2008 5:16PM
Players Did Not do THEIR Job
Players did not do their job a lot more than Willie... what are they? children that need to be motivated? Millions and playing in NY is not tenough to motivate these bumms? No clutch hitting, starters who consistently cannot get through 6 let alone 7 innings... bullpen which is as up and down as there is, and closer who finally joins the performance of the other relievers and starts blowing saves left and right... ALL this is Willies Fault??? Omar: Look in the mirror, no stable LF, botched up Church concussion decision, just to start... YOU should be FIRED!!!
06/17/2008 5:15PM
Bush League
It doesnt matter if you were pro or anti firing Willie and the staff. We should all agree thqat the manner of this firing was strictly bush league....done from afar after flying across the country. It speaks poorly of the Wilpons and serves as a warning to other potential manegerial hires in the future.
06/17/2008 5:15PM
Double Talk
Omar's next career will probably be in politics. I've never heard so much double talk in my life. He ought to just shut down the press conference now. We're not going to learn anything. I'm also getting sick of hearing him tell us what a great opportunity he gave Willie. The implications of that statement are nauseating.
06/17/2008 5:08PM
Paul Millus
The Met's are a fraud. Do they think Jerry Manuel is going to be any different. Also, the way they did it was outrageous. Omar is a toady of the Wilpons who have no guts to stand up and admmit they also participated in the decsion. They should be ashamed of themselves.
06/17/2008 5:07PM
Booooooooo
45 seconds into the press conference and Omar plays the race card....boooooooo.......its about baseball not race
06/17/2008 5:02PM
Fire Omar
Fire Omar he put this team together. Too many old players that can not stay healthy or are way past their prime.
06/17/2008 4:59PM
Too Old
Omar did not give Willie the tools, too many old players, heard he is trying to sign Juan Marichal. Also his assitant underminded Willie's authority. What a shame been a fan since 1962 but this whole thing is embarrassing.
06/17/2008 4:52PM
not the right time
rick peterson had to go he should have gone after that stupid kazmir trade yeah he can fix everything besides its a cowerdly act to fire a manager after abig win so far away from home and besides manuel is not the answer
06/17/2008 4:48PM
Never Been Hired
Never should have hired him in the first place. Horrible manager. During collapse last year, remember when Glavine(?) "walked" lead-off batter with only three balls. Willie just stood there glaring out into space. Pony League coaches at least know the count.
06/17/2008 4:43PM
Fed uP
Thanks Omar you blame Willie you classless scum you dangle your mannager out in the wind like a carrot and you put these over the hill wonnabes together with this big pay role. Until you are gone I will not watch another MET game attend a MET game, listen to the game on the Radio until you are gone. You scuz bucket now you and your Spanish Essas can have the team and going to tell all my friends who own compnaies and have season tickets for their companies to turn them in and not to buy any for CitiField.
06/17/2008 4:40PM
No class..
Just when you thought you saw it all...along comes Omar...no class none!
06/17/2008 4:38PM
Mike & Blabber mouth..
Boy do these two idiots hate the Mets...I'm a very long time Mets fan who found the Mets unwatchable for alot of this season..I'm alsoa season ticket holder. As unwatchable as the Mets were at times...these two guys are unlistenable...
06/17/2008 4:23PM
Why Not HoJo?
The Mets are not hitting! That's their biggest problem? They just lost 3 games to the Padres by a score of 2-1. Not a single player has a batting avg over .300. With that Payroll ?! Why is no one talking about firing the hitting coach on a team that's not hitting?
06/17/2008 4:17PM
timing
Brilliant Met timing as usual. I like(d) Willy, but when key players don't respond, it's either the players or the manager that have to go. Appropriate times to have fired him would have been last summer, June 1st or the end of this season. Way to go Wilpons, business as usual. (still missing Doubleday)
06/17/2008 4:17PM
Thanks Omar
Willie or no Willie, this Mets team is not catching Phily. They just are not good enough - Thanks Omar!
06/17/2008 4:14PM
Bring Back
Bring back Davey Johnson Omar call him up and get him signed !!!!
