Let me ask you this question Islanders fans, you actually exist?

Nolan is a fine coach ... he's proved that he belongs in the NHL and should be given another job. The cold hard facts are simply this: he was not the right guy for this team. He's much better off working w/ a group of vets who are a 6 or 7 seed and getting them over the top. That's not the Isles. Nolan preferred crusty vets (Hilbert, Silly, Simon, etc.) over playing the kids. Granted, most of our kids are not "all that and a bag of chips" but they have to be played so that either (1) they actually develop into something decent or (2) we realize we need to cut bait on them. Nolan wasn't into that. As for our next coach ... I don't know all the names or "hot up and comers" but I think we need a player development guy and not a NHL coaching re-tread. Fact is we're at least 2 seasons away from being ultra competitive and we need someone who can motivate and teach. Bad news for Guerin, Weight, Silly, et al but those guys won't be here in 2 seasons. Flood this team with youth ... motivate them to play their arses off and let them develop. If we wind up dead last next year so be it ... go into 2009 season w/ the #1 pick (Tavares?) an approved Lighthouse project and a boatload of up and coming prospects. Then let them gel in 2009-2010 and hopefully we bring in some quality FA's for the 2010-2011 season (along w/ our developed youngsters) and we should have something here (all playing in a refurbished NVMC???) ... I think that's the best case scenario. Anything other than that and I fear the Isles may be renamed the Gushers and be playing in Oklahoma City in 2012.

Although I am rooting for Detroit big time and I was dissapointed with the outcome last night, that was one of the better hockey games I have seen in awhile. Nothing like triple OT in a Stanley Cup Finals game. I feel sorry for all the people that refuse to watch this great sport and follow Boring Baseball, I guess they can't appreciate something unless they can play it. Hockey players, are the most skilled of all athletes.

he's a very good goalie, as long as you shoot low on him. he'll make the save 99% of the time. but he plays goal on his knees 99% of the time. rip a shot up high on him and he's toast. the good teams will see this weakness and go high on him. penguins did it on some of their goals.

McCreary just gave Detroit a 5 on 3 and ten seconds later they score. The fist call was an obvious trip, the second call was soooo questionable. Awful officiating in the playoffs this year.

How was Fleury better in every game? How was Fluery better in Game 4 when Lundquist pitched a shutout? How was Fleury better in Game 5 when Lundquist faced many more shots?

#1 reason - lack of a solid powerplay. Those couple of chances in a game can make or break you. Penguins with all that talent got it done on PP. Rangers didn't. Agree with comment here about need for a general on the powerplay. Not many Leetches out there, but the closest Rangers have is Roszival. Jagr scored around 5 powerplay goals all season, after setting team record with 24? a few years ago.

I am not a ranger fan, but this was a disgustingly horrific officiated series. Sidney Crosby and Evgeny Malkin are the face of the NHL now and it looked like the NHL sold this series and wanted them to forward.

The officiating was disgraceful in that series. That was not the reason the Rangers lost though. Too many mistakes in their own zone, a powerplay that was impotent besides one game and a soft defense that doesn't know how to clear out in front. Ratboy got a number of calls but the Rangers had chances. You can't blow a 3-0 lead in Game 1 and blame the refs.

A am a NJ Devils fan and will be the first to admit the Rangers were by far the better team and deserve to win against the Devils. Kudos to Lundquist. Letting Scott Gomez walk and sign with the Rangers came back to haunt New Jersey. Lou, you have a busy off season ahead for you and for god sake sign some goal scorers.

I don't think the Devils are done, but the GM needs to hold on to talent and not let them get away every off season.I understand the cap restrictions, but they can't be the Montreal Expos of the NHL, developing talent and losing it every three or four years. Look at all the players they lost this past offseason. Sutter is a good coach, Brodeur still has gas in the tank.I think one good anchor type defenseman and a purebred goal scorer will make the Devils a force to be reckoned with. See, last year with only a week left in the regular season; he fires an excellent coach, saying that the Devils aren't ready for the playoffs.... way to demoralize your team just before the play-offs you dumb @%$&! Then, this year... at the trade deadline, knowing full-well that offense is a problem - decides to keep all his under-performing defensive-minded forwards (like they've been helping us in THE LEAST!) - and instead trades for another defenceman. I think the entire Snow, Nolan thing is being drawn out a little bit. Garth, from knowing his personality in his playing days, was making light of the situation and he did come out and say that the coach is getting paid to make decisions or something to the affect. I think his one liner back to Mike was a bit more to be funny rather than undermine his coach...that's his personality and you get that from him the rest of the interview where he likes to joke a bit. You as an Islander fan have to raise your eye brows too when your franchise player is not playing and is capable of doing so in a huge game. Garth and DePietro have a strong bond as Garth took Rick under his wings a bit as Rick was coming into the league so thats where that relationship is, however I think you are looking a bit too much into it with his joking statement!

When the team infront of you allows guys to have breakaways or tip pucks all alone infront of the net it dosen't matter who is in goal. It also dosen't help when they have no life on the PP and barely test a a goalie who looked horrible the night before.

To me hockey is a great great game. NYC metro area could have three teams in the playoffs, it deserves more coverage. I am an old Ranger fan typical brooklyn kid that sat in the old "blue" seats in the late '60s and early '70s. You have a good blog Ienjoyed it; keep on writing.

I think the team feeds off Jagr's bad emotion. When Nylander left, Jagr's game left. It is time to move on and let him go. It is obvious he can not adjust to this new, younger, faster Ranger team. Chris Drury shoul dbe wearing the C of this team. He gives 100% everynight and has leadership experience. Jagr is not a leader. He should forfeit the C and try to work on his game. Hey idiot icelander and devil fans- the best defense man among all under discussion here was #2 Bradley Douglas Park. he could hit , skate and set up players. Unfortunately he never played on a Cup winner and was traded much too soon. Most Devils fans never heard heard of him because they did not know what hockey was back when he played; as for the icelanders all they know is that pig Potvin who beat his wife. Jagr looks like he has 50lbs weights tied to each foot. I can remember when he came into the NHL. He was able to skate circles around everyone, now he can't get out of his own way. I traveled to NY from Calgary, AB for the loss the to Vikings. Although that was a disappointing game I know they had the heart to do it. I've been a Giants fan, LT influenced, from the time I started watching NFL. No one believed they could be wherethere are right now. I believe in the Giants, all the way from Calgary, AB. Though I would never go to a Devils game, when I watch them on TV all I sse are empty seats at their new arena. This proves two points : 1) thete is no need to have thre Devils in this area and they should moved to Canada where they would be more appreciated. 2) The 8000 fans that show up for Devils games are all the Devils fans there are and they are same people that showed up in that other building they played in.
