Chicago (WFAN) -- Chicago - Coach Tom Coughlin used the word "embarrassed" when describing the Giants' awful performance in their 17-3 preseason loss to the Bears. And it was awful, with very few positives.
So let's review the three things to look for and how the Giants fared:
1. Receiving corps. Hakeem Nicks' 55-yard reception down the right sideline with 50 seconds left in the game was the group's lone highlight of the night. There's not much more you need to know. This group did nothing to advance themselves from the preseason opener. To be fair, the quarterbacks were under pressure and forced into making several bad throws throughout the evening. And they also made some bad throws even when there wasn't much heat. Still, none of the receivers was able to rise up and make any of those "Wow, did you see that?" plays.
2. Pass rush. Jay Cutler went to the pass much earlier and often than one would expect, and he sliced up the defense, mostly with short- and medium-range throws. It seemed as though the pressure always was a step too slow. Even when the pocket broke down, Cutler found open lanes to scramble.
3. Backup RB. Allen Patrick didn't get a chance to improve his stock. Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and Danny Ware virtually split the carries. Jacobs ran hard and punished every tackler who hit him even though open lanes were hard to come by. Bradshaw made some nifty moves, but remains inconsistent picking up the blitz. Ware was inserted behind the last-string offensive line and did an admirable job, given there was no room to run.
