B&C Blog: 6-25 - Almost a No-No Against the Yankees
Nick Colombo
Yes Folks, just like this bald eagle the bald Craig Carton was flying solo today as Boomer took a personal day. But don’t worry; the always talkative morning show host still had plenty to say. Between The Yankees almost getting no hit in Atlanta, the AAA Mets showing signs of life, contemplating taunts for the upcoming subway series, plagiarizing love letters to his wife, having a chat with Jill Nicolini, previewing the NBA draft, and previewing Al Dukes’ love life when he visits Tampa Bay; Mr. Carton found a way to keep things interesting even without his morning show partner.
Craig started by wanting Yankees’ fans to come clean. After five innings of getting no hit, watching Brett Gardner get thrown out at first, and watching Joe Girardi get thrown out of the game; there was no way you didn’t think a no-no against the Bombers was in the works. In excitement Craig settled in on the couch to watch it, but his dreams were soon shattered by a Francisco Cervelli solo shot. Still Craig was highly entertained by the possibility...
Even though the Yanks avoided the no hitter and actually went on to win the game, Craig made it clear that trouble still abounds for this team. AROD’s lone hit, which scored two key RBIs, doesn’t mean he’s ok Craig explained, it just means he got a hit. In addition, the surprise visit of Brian Cashman to Atlanta, or the “Fat Weasel” as Craig likes to call him, shows the behind the scenes problems are mounting as well.
As down as Craig was on the Yanks, he was incredibly optimistic about the Binghamton Mets, oops meant the New York Mets, hard to tell the difference these days. Yes, after seeing the scrappiness of the hitters and another great outing on the mound by former throw away Fernando Nieve, Craig was predicting big things for the Mets, even a change in the standings…
Of course one thing stands in Craig’s way. Newman…
No not that Newman. David Newman, the Mets’ Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications. He’s the man with the keys to the castle when it comes to getting these things done, and although he didn’t have time to talk to Craig on air, he promised to discuss it with him at a charity event this afternoon. However, if David won’t help make the Yankees uncomfortable this weekend, there are ways to get around him.
Before the weekend begins Craig has a Friday treat for fans of the morning show. The voluptuous Jill Nicolini of WPIX will join Craig live in studio tomorrow! She was nice enough to call in today to give a little preview…
As his love life still remains in limbo, Al Dukes got some ideas for when Jill visits…
Of course having attractive ladies on the morning show is nothing new around here. But don’t you ever think for a second that Craig is tempted. He loves his wife deeply, and to prove it to her he decides to take a page out of the book, well actually the email, of Governor Mark Sanford from South Carolina and send her a love letter…
With all this going on it’s easy to forget that the NBA draft is tonight, and that the Knicks and Nets have pretty good picks. So Craig took some time to preview the draft with the morning show’s resident basketball enthusiast Bob Dwyer…
Besides previewing the NBA draft Craig also took some time to preview Al Dukes’ vacation to Tampa Bay. More important Craig took the time to give a preview of Al’s love life when he gets to Tampa Bay…
This ended up being Jerry’s moment of the day…
Tomorrow, a big day as Craig is flying solo again. Joanna Krupa, the supermodel that recently had some interesting things to say about Terrell Owens, will be on the program. Knicks’ head coach Mike D’Antoni will join Craig to review the draft. Former Met Rusty Staub will swing by to talk some baseball. Jill Nicolini will be with Craig in studio to promote his upcoming appearance on the WPIX Mets’ pregame show. Finally, a new Mike Pelfrey song for all you fans to enjoy. Cya then, 6-10am, on the FAN!
The Super Party is super over. If you’re lucky you made a few bucks and were able to eat 25 wings without much indigestion. If you were un-lucky, you lost a few grand or lost some dignity like I did when I fell asleep in the third quarter after drinking only 2 Negra Modelos. No matter how your super Sunday went, Football season’s over. Put away the chips, clean out the guacamole...
The last time I watched a pro sports Championship was about 3 months ago. We were at my buddy’s house, and as the 9th inning began we were giddy with excitement as number 27 was within our grasp. Then suddenly as the great Mariano took the mound, my buddies Grandma burst into the living room and demanded we all leave because she had to go to the bathroom. 3 months later, I hope my Super Bowl is much better...
Football fights, that’s the theme of today’s program. Osi Umenyiora may be trying to fight his way off the Giants after telling Joe and Evan he’d rather retire than be benched again. Of course, as Craig said, the best way to avoid being benched might be to just play better. Meanwhile, Boomer and Craig wonder if Rex Ryan should fight to get out of his fine...
I’ve been told by many girls that I have Russian hands and Roman fingers. Rex Ryan, well he just has expensive fingers. While I’m sure Rex wishes he had my talented dexterity, he’s probably more concerned that one little finger just cost him 50,000 big ones. Yes, for one little finger the Jets went ahead and fined the Rex man...
It’s Groundhog Day, and what better way to celebrate than by dragging one of New York’s favorite rats out of his hole. Isiah Thomas himself joined Boomer and Craig this morning in the most comprehensive interview he’s done since coaching the Knicks and overdosing on sleeping pills...
