The Miller Myth Watching the excellent Dan Klores documentary, “Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. the New York Knicks,” I felt like a teenager again. Watching the clips from all those Knicks-Pacers series made me feel all the joy and pain that only a kid can feel when their favorite basketball team is the most important thing in their world.

A Warning For Walsh Watching the Detroit Pistons play bad basketball last Wednesday against the Knicks should have provided a nice less lesson to Donnie Walsh when it comes to cap space this summer—spend wisely.

Getting Some Perspective There’s been a lot of panic in Knicks country over the poor play since the Tracy McGrady trade. While I understand it, it’s a huge waste of energy. First of all, anyone that thought McGrady and his one good leg was going to somehow lead a playoff drive was fooling themselves.

Early Returns After three losses, and despite Tracy McGrady’s continuing knee problems, the early returns on the Knicks trade deadline maneuvers have been positive. Dead Men Walking Despite being only six games out of the final playoff spot, the Knicks season is over. Any hope of making a run to the playoffs was dashed when they lost six out of seven games to the Raptors, Wizards (twice), Timberwolves, Bucs, Cavs and Kings. World-beaters, these teams are not.

A Losing Culture The Knicks haven’t been a winning team in a very long time. The last time the franchise finished .500 was the 2000-2001 season. Their coach? Jeff Van Gundy.
