New York, NY (WFAN) -- Show a little faith, there’s magic in the night.
You ain’t a beauty, but hey you’re alright.
Oh, and that’s alright with me.

Joe Girardi believes in Kyle Farnsworth. That’s kind of a scary thought, and as much as you may want to hide ‘neath your covers and study your pain…don’t waste your summer praying in vain, because Joe Girardi’s faith isn’t wavering.

Last month at Yankee Stadium Farnsworth entered in the 7th with the Yanks trailing the Mets 3-2. After home runs by Jose Reyes and David Wright, the Mets led 6-2…his three run inning the difference in what turned out to be a 7-4 Yankee loss. Since that time, Farnsworth has gone no more than three straight outings without giving up a run. But with Joba Chamberlain now in the rotation, this is the man Girardi will turn to all summer long, whether you like it or not.
“You know I’ve always believed in Kyle,” explained Girardi after Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Mets. “And I think it goes back to my days in Chicago because I saw him throw very well. And I knew the ability that he had.”
Where Joe Torre had restrictions on how and when to use Farnsworth, Girardi has taken the shackles off. “He has had no problems going back to back for us,” said Girardi. “He has even told me that he is fine on the third day. So I’ve been really happy with what he’s done for us.”
As for Farnsworth’s penchant for giving up the long ball and some big runs, Girardi said: “It’s gonna happen. When you’re a 8th or 9th inning guy you’re living on the edge every time you come in, it’s always a close game, usually three or less. It’s tough in a lot of situations, but I have a lot of belief in him.”
Saturday night, 8th inning, Yanks up 3-2…enter Kyle Farnsworth. Damian Easley flew out to Melky Cabrera. David Wright drilled a ball to left-center, but Johnny Damon was playing in the right spot, got a good jump, and made a nice grab to save extra bases. Farnsworth then struck out Carlos Beltran, got him waving at a slider to end the inning.
Every now and then he does the job. But there have been too many potholes along the way for the fans to have faith in Farnsworth. But as long as the manager still believes in him, there’s nothing you can do…except roll down the window and let the breeze blow back your hair.
