Ok deep breath. The New Jersey Nets will NOT win a championship anytime soon. For many this has been obvious for years, but for some diehards this is a cold, hard taste of reality. This week it finally happened...reality sank in! It's time...It's time...to put the Kidd era Nets out of its misery.
Step 1: Admit it! This team isn't as bad as their awful record states, but they aren't as good as the Celtics and they aren't as good as the Pistons. They will probably turn around in the second half and make the playoffs like they have every year in the Kidd era. If they get to the playoffs, they will get knocked out in the first or second round. For Knick fans that may be enough, but for Net fans who make the playoffs every year and came oh so close to winning the big one in 03 that isn't enough. There is no type of retooling, barring the Cavs decide to trade LeBron that can put this team over the hump. If they can't win a championship, then what's the point of keeping this group together!
Step 2: Blow It Up! It starts unfortunately with the captain. All Net fans greatly appreciate the ON THE COURT contributions from Jason Kidd, but he needs to be the first one to go. The demise of the team should not be blamed on Jason. Not at all, he gives it all on the court night in and night out which is something I can't say about a lot of his teammates. Trading Kidd is not for Jason. I could care less what he wants. It's about getting something back and having the framework to start the rebuilding process. I only wish the Lakers gave in and dealt the Nets Andrew Bynum a year ago, but getting a booty like that back is not realistic. Net fans should be prepared for the harsh reality that they will not get anywhere close to equal value back for Kidd. What they will get is draft picks, and lots of cap space.
Step 3: NO MORE VC! Again nothing personal, but Vince Carter must go. If you want to keep a vet to build the team around, Vince is not the guy. He is clearly past his prime, and is flat out not good enough to be the building block. I understand he sells jerseys, but who cares at this point! If the Nets are really going to Brooklyn they need to worry about having someone to sell those jerseys then, not now when no one cares in East Rutherford.
Step 4: Coach ____: Should the leader of the future be Lawrence Frank? If this team rebuilds it needs a leader who can help teach the young guys and deal without a lot of losing. I know Rod Thorn loves Coach Frank, so if he wants him to be that guy I can deal with it. In Rod we Trust!
Step 5: Close Your Eyes: This will get ugly. But the only way to rebuild in the NBA is for things to get uglier than Rosie O'Donnell at a nude beach. There will be a lot of losing, and even more empty seats than usual. But if the goal is to win a championship this needs to be done. The Nets will be worse than the Knicks...its harsh, but if they blow this baby up...it will be reality!
Nets Acquire Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee From Orlando The New Jersey Nets have acquired guards Rafer Alston and Courtney Lee, along with forward/center Tony Battie from Orlando in exchange for Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today.
De-Fense! De-Fense! It has always been defense that wins in the NBA playoffs, and it will be no different this year. What's surprising is which teams are showing that defensive mindset.
Playoff Points Ok let's start with the obvious…how about that Bulls/Celtics series? Two things jump out at me after watching this 7 game classic.
Predicting A Dream Matchup ZZZZZZZZZZZZ No, No those Z's are not to represent my respect for Zydrunas Ilgauskas. It's to signify that for the first time in my lifetime.

Date With Eight Benigno always tells me, "Bro...I don't care if the Knicks make the playoffs...who CARES...it's all about getting under the cap for LeBron." Point well taken sir. Nobody is crazy enough to think that the Knicks should forget the cap space idea and go for it now.
