As the world's first 24-hour all-sports radio station, Sports Radio 66 WFAN remains the premier sports talk radio station in the business. Since its debut on July 1, 1987, dozens of stations have copied the all sports format, but none have achieved the success and the notoriety of the FAN.
WFAN is the flagship station of four New York professional sports franchises: the New York Mets, the New York Giants, the New Jersey Devils and the New Jersey Nets. A wide range of major sports events can also be heard on the station including a full slate of NFL games leading up to, and including, the Super Bowl.
WFAN's Sports Talk programming is anchored by twenty-one year WFAN veteran and lifetime New Yorker, Mike Francesa and his "Mike'd Up" program heard weekdays from 1-6:30 PM. Mike, often called "The Sports Doctor", goes toe to toe with listeners and sports figures alike to deliver the best sports talk radio in the country. He regularly grills the top athletes, coaches and managers from New York sports teams and around the country. During the football season Mike also hosts the popular "NFL Now" program on Sunday mornings from 9am-noon with regular segments from former Super Bowl MVP Quarterback Phil Simms and a different NFL coach each week.
WFAN's morning show is anchored by Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton weekdays from 6-10am. Boomer Esiason, an NFL MVP quarterback is a native New Yorker and aside from his morning show on WFAN can be seen every Sunday as part of CBS-TV's pre and post game NFL coverage on "The NFL Today". Boomer is also the analyst for Westwood One's Monday Night Football game of the week. Craig Carton, born and raised in New Rochelle, NY most recently spent over five years as the host of the popular "Jersey Guys" radio show and also spent time as a sports talk show host at both WNEW-FM in New York and WIP in Philadelphia. Their mix of sports and lifestyle has brought many new listeners to the radio station.
Holding down the midday shift is the always colorful Joe Benigno and his partner of two years, Evan Roberts. A super fan of both the Mets and Jets, Joe represents the FAN in all of us. His passion for his teams can be heard each day between 10am and 1pm. Evan Roberts, first appeared on WFAN as a ten year old sportscaster and now adds his perspective and sports exuberance to the program.
As the leader in sports talk radio, WFAN has provided in-depth coverage of the top sports stories in New York and throughout the world since 1987. From hirings to firings, signings and retirements, wins and losses and all the controversies, passionate, opinionated New York sports fans tune in to the FAN to hear about it first and to speak their mind.
WFAN also provides sports updates every 20 minutes with exclusive WFAN 20/20 Sports at the top of the hour, 20 minutes past the hour and 20 minutes before the hour.
The strength of the station goes beyond the world of sports. WFAN has proven itself a potent force in its charitable efforts. The annual WFAN Radiothon, a 28 ½ hour fundraising marathon, is an unparalleled demonstration of the power of radio put to its best use as is the annual Hungerthon held each fall. WFAN continues to promote local fund-raising events and broadcasts a locally produces two hour Public Affairs program every Sunday morning from 6-8am. Followed by our youth-oriented show: "The Sports Edge", hosted by Rick Wolff.
