Howie Rose

Howie Rose begins his third season as a full-time Mets play-by-play announcer in the WFAN Sports Radio 66 broadcast booth. Howie has years of experience covering the team, and his knowledge and insight to the Mets' organization have regularly contributed to WFAN's radio broadcasts.

Howie started his broadcasting career in 1975 with "Sportsphone" while also continuing to freelance in local New York radio. Howie moved on to WHN in 1977 where he served as the station's sports director and an on-air sportscaster until 1983. In early 1984, Howie moved over to WCBS News Radio while continuing to do some freelance work for the NBC Radio network. Howie also hosted a cable TV sports show on Cox Cable between 1984-1986.

In 1987, Howie returned to WHN and was an original member of the WFAN air staff when the station flipped to all sports on July 1, 1987. Howie spent much of the next seven years as the host of Mets Extra while also holding the nighttime slot (7p-midnight) on WFAN. While at WFAN, Howie joined the New York Rangers broadcast crew as one of the play-by-play voices along with Marv Albert, and continued doing Rangers games through 1995. Howie was part of the announcing crew during the Rangers run to the 1993-1994 Stanley Cup.

In 1995 Howie was hired by Sportschannel, which later became Fox Sports New York to be the play-by-play announcer for the New York Islanders hockey team. Howie continues to be heard on FSNY as well as the MSG Network doing Islanders games. Howie began doing play-by-play of New York Mets baseball games on FSNY and MSG in 1996 and occasionally mixed in radio work on WFAN as a Mets play-by-play announcer

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Bayside, Howie currently lives on Long Island with his wife and two daughters.
