New York, NY (WFAN) -- The Mets face the division rival Washington Nationals for the third time this season before they head to the Bronx for their first meeting with the cross-town rival Yankees.
The Mets have won four of the five games they've played against the Nationals so far in 2008, a three-game sweep at Shea and a split of the two-game set in D.C. Once again, the Mets will not face Paul Lo Duca. The former Mets catcher missed all five of the previous games between the his old and new clubs last month and is on the disabled list with a fractured hand, his second stint on the D.L. this season. Lastings Milledge has appeared in all five games against his ex-club, hitting just .188 (3 for 16) with one double. The Nationals will not return to Shea again until September.
Last week Carlos Gomez, who the Mets dealt to the Twins in the Johan Santana trade, hit for the cycle in a Minnesota victory over the White Sox in Chicago. Gomez became the 7th player to hit for the cycle after playing for the Mets. The previous six were: Tim Foli (Expos 1976), Gregg Jefferies (Phillies 1995), Tony Fernandez (Yankees 1995), Jeff Kent (Giants 1999), John Olerud (Mariners 2001) and Gary Mathews, Jr. (2006). Gomez also became the second one-time Met to accomplish the feat for the Twins. Mike Cubbage hit for the cycle with Minnesota in 1978 before joining the Mets.
This weekend, the Mets will play their final regular season series against the Yankees in the current Yankee Stadium. The Mets have played 10 series in the Bronx since interleague play began in 1997 (The home-and-home series did not begin until 1999).
Here are 10 trivia questions based on the Mets' visits to the Stadium:

Coleman's Corner: On Fire Are the Mets finally OK? Well, I'm not so sure that they weren't OK to begin with. It just took longer than expected for some of these people to come out of hibernation, and for the rest of the National League East, specifically the Phillies, to come back to earth.

Schwei Vision: A Look Back at the Rockies, Giants, and Mets Turned Managers The San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies make their final visits to Shea as the Mets play their final two series before the All-Star break. The Mets took two of three from the Giants early last month in San Francisco, rebounding from Oliver Perez' disastrous one-third of an inning stint, in which he allowed six runs in an eventual 10-2 loss, to take the next two games.

Schwei Vision: We've Come Half Way 81 down and 81 to go for the New York Mets who will hope for better results in the second half of the 2008 season which begins with an eight game road swing against the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Coleman's Corner: It Could Be Worse One game under and three games out. Two in the loss column if you're starting to count at the halfway point. After all that's happened in the first half, including a managerial change, the Mets could easily be in a lot worse shape than they find themselves.
|
Schwei Vision: 7 Finale Fast Facts 7 Fast Facts after the final game of this year's Subway Series at Shea: The Mets took four of the six games from the Yankees. It was their first season series win over the Yanks since 2004 and only their second ever vs. their cross town rival.

Coleman's Corner: What was he doing? Where was he going? What was he doing? Where was he going? What was he thinking? All legitimate questions in the wake of Jose Reyes' boneheaded play in the 5th inning last night. Damion Easley's walk had pushed Reyes to 2nd after he had singled with two outs.
