Roberts Blog: Knicks Have The Knack

I know its tough to get excited about a team that still trails the 8th seed by more than 6 games, but how bout them Knicks!! I guess when you set the bar so low, anything, and I mean ANYTHING can get a fan base excited. So since the Knicks have made the Garden faithful forget what winning feels like, this latest hot run feels like something unfamiliar to Knick fans. But I have to admit in spite of yesterday's loss to Boston, they have been fun to watch lately.

Should a Knick fan get excited about knocking off Detroit, Washington twice, Miami and continuing to own the crosstown Nets? Yeah, probably not. They are in the uncomfortable spot of burying themselves so much that a run at the eight seed seems unlikely, and continuing to win ruins any chances of stealing a top three pick in the NBA lottery. So winning may actually be doing a lot more bad than good. But forgetting about the extracurricular stuff and just looking at the product on the floor is quite encouraging. Jamal Crawford continues to prove that he is a bonafide star and clearly the best player on the floor night in, night out for the Knicks. Crawford is the leader of this team, and should be on of the few guys that Isiah marks as "un-tradable" if he dares considers making a trade.

It's also become painfully obvious that Knick players knew what they were talking about when they voted to bench Stephon Marbury months back. They know the painful truth about Steph...they are better without him! There is more ball movement and a better energy with Marbury absent. A lot of that credit belongs to that little pain in the you know what sparkplug. Nate Robinson has really given this team quite a spark off the bench with his energy and hot shooting. One major concern I'd have over Little Nate is his propensity to mix it up with guys two feet taller than him. Ya gotta love his toughness, but sometimes you wonder if Nate wants to just pick a fight with everyone. He's like the little blonde kid from Bad News Bears, he has this Napoleon complex that one day real soon, may come back to haunt him.

What's ironic about this mini run the Knicks are putting together, is the fact that Eddy Curry remains an enigma. It's not like Curry has finally developed into the behemoth that Isiah predicted he will soon become. Curry remains lazy, inconsistent and a non factor on the glass, yet the wins are starting to come to the Knicks. Randolph is great, when he A. Shuts Up...B. Avoids strip clubs and C. You avoid the fact that his contract makes A-Rod blush.

I know it was convenient to say that the Pistons didn't have their head in the game and the Wizards didn't care about the Knicks because they had just beaten Boston, but a few wins later the excuses for the losers don't work. Let's all face it. We all may despise Isiah and want the Knicks to hit some more rock bottoms, but they are finally playing decent basketball. It probably won't translate into a playoff spot and I'm pretty sure it won't be parlayed into a championship, but it will help keep the heat off public enemy number 1: Isiah.

  • Coach Frank!!! It's time you pay the piper for the Nets continuing ability to underachieve.

  • You know how the Knicks are clearly better without Marbury...we'll its similar in DC. The Wizards are proving they are better with out opt out to be Gilbert Arenas.

  • I never thought the Heat could be this pathetic, but boy are they bad. If I'm Pat Riley, I shop Shaq to the point that I give him away if I could.

  • Your first half MVP in the NBA season...Brandon Roy.

Roberts Blog: The Aftershock!
So how do things look for the locals now that the trade deadline has passed? Eh, more of the same! We'll get to the Knicks in a bit, because they still stink, and I'm starting to run out of ways to express that obvious fact.
Roberts Blog: A Dear Jason Letter
Dear Jason, Wow, I can't believe it's really over! I mean all the good times and all the hard times and now its finally really finished. Man, I'll tell ya these 6 ½ years went by like the speed of light.
Roberts Blog: Power Down Isiah
It's like knowing you are going to break up with your girlfriend, but before dumping her, you let her rearrange your house! It's like giving her the control to sell your car, or name your dog! That would be insanity.
Roberts Blog: Time To Rebuild
Ok deep breath. The New Jersey Nets will NOT win a championship anytime soon. For many this has been obvious for years, but for some diehards this is a cold, hard taste of reality. This week it finally happened...reality sank in! It's time...It's time...to put the Kidd era Nets out of its misery.

Birth of a Travesty....Just how did the Knicks get SOOO BAD.  As the 2007-2008 season rolls on, it is becoming painfully obvious that after 82 games the Knicks season will end.
