Dear Jason,
Wow, I can't believe it's really over! I mean all the good times and all the hard times and now its finally really finished. Man, I'll tell ya these 6 ½ years went by like the speed of light. It feels like almost yesterday you came here to try and resurrect your career. I think you'd have to admit that even though you had some bad times here, overall it was a pretty good experience..wouldn't ya say?

I'll never forget that day...June 28, 2001. Rod Thorn pulled off the best trade in Nets history. (Yeah it has the selling of Dr. J beat) The Nets acquired you Jason, and we gave up the team eating cancer Stephon Marbury! You know Steph, the best point guard in the NBA! You came to a bad franchise, in a bad arena, who had little to absolutely no success in their NBA history and turned them into something special. I will never forget how you so confidentially walked into our lives and turned the perennial 50 loss team, not only into a contender but a Finals participant. That night in New Jersey, 2002, Game 5 vs. Indiana. Who could forget that night? Maybe the greatest Nets game ever played, and it surely wouldn't have ever happened if it wasn't for you Jason. After blowing that awful Game 3 in Boston, you led the team back from the worst playoff loss in NBA history to 3 straight wins and the impossible became reality. The Nets in the NBA finals. It was because of one man...Jason Kidd.
And then you did it again in 2003. Even though the Finals didn't end the way we had all hoped, you led the team that was the punch line for all jokes, the Swamp Dragons, back to the finals, proving '02 was no fluke. You took the awful ridicule you received in Boston and stuck it to 'em. They yelled at your wife, they called you terrible names and it rolled off your back. Two years had gone by and it was a dream come true...Jason in Jersey was a success. But then, even though nobody wanted to admit we saw the bad side of Jason Kidd. First you became GM. After holding the organization hostage because you flirted with San Antonio you got your contract and even handed out one. Your power led to Alonzo Mourning...need I say more. Then you decided after a slow start in '04 a coaching change was needed. Even though Coach Scott had led the team to back to back NBA Finals appearances, you didn't like him. So the ugly Kidd continued by firing the head coach and replacing him with neophyte Lawrence Frank.
You cried when Rod Thorn, the man who saved your career, made a business decision in not maxing out Kenyon Martin. You cried when you felt the talent around you wasn't enough. You embarrassed the franchise by your ugly divorce with your wife, and shamed us even more with your "groping" incident. You demanded trades every time the team went through a losing streak. You ripped your fan base, you ripped your bosses, you ripped everyone in sight. You faked migraines, you took games off, begging, praying for the day you would leave us. Well Jason, your wish is granted.
I know I sound like a bitter ex lover, but I don't mean to. I want to thank you Jason. Seriously though there were a lot of bad times and lots of reasons for me to curse you on the way out, I don't want to do that. I want to thank you! Thank you for 2 NBA finals, thank you for the excitement of 6 ½ years of good basketball, thank you for all those triple doubles, and thank you for respectability. But as we say good bye...Net fans will learn something in the next 3 years. Was it you Jason who turned around the Nets...or was it Rod Thorn?! All Net fans pray it's the latter.
Sincerely,
Net Fans
