Mia Missives: Heading North On The Thruway

giants@wfan.com

Albany, NY (WFAN)  -- They are the Defending Super Bowl Champions...and They are BACK! Big Blue Football turns a new leaf this season and I am hopping on the band wagon to go along for the ride. Speaking of, I hit the road on Wednesday morning in a monsoon as I drove up the NY Thruway to get to the University of Albany to get my hands dirty and feet wet along with the Champs. Players arrived today at the dorms and although the weather continued to disappoint they did not!

The 1st to arrive that I saw was Brandon Jacobs who showed up with an extra large Disney Pixar coloring book and crayons. And I don't mean the little crayons, but rather the BIG ONES. You know the ones we all used in Pre-K. He said that he planned on spending some down time at camp, which I didn't think there was much, creating some masterpieces for his son. I wonder if he stays in the lines. I'll have to follow up on his art skills as camp moves on.

Eli Manning arrived to the most flashed of cameras and running of photographers. That had to be the best part of the day, it was like paparazzi chasing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Shaun O' Hara had to be the most fun. Maybe it comes from the experience of doing this so many times or being in the league longer, but without a doubt he seems to have the most fun with the media. He was spouting out cliches to Post writer Paul Schwartz; " Chip on the Shoulder, Just keep playing...talk is cheap, just play the game, together we are one. What other T-shirts do we have?" It was classic. He was doing stand-up for us media folk for a few minutes. It definitely lightened the mood as we were all out there in the rain playing the "waiting game."

Then the arrival we had all been eagerly anticipating. Plax showed up with Antonio Pierce in a black Escalade. I like the fact that they are carpooling with gas prices soaring over 4 bucks! But the capper of their arrival together was when Plax opened the back and pulled out his "luggage."...He threw an extra large garbage bag over his shoulder Santa style. Yes, Plaxico arriving at camp as his agent said he would even though he is still looking for that new long term deal, but apparently he wanted to make a statement by packing in 2 hefty bags as opposed to the traditional suitcases. Funny, indeed. He did not talk to the media just walked on by with his bag of tricks.

I look forward to covering training camp this season. If it is as entertaining as the arrival day was, I am sure it will be 3 and a half weeks for the ages or if you are like Brandon Jacobs, for the age-less.

Mia Missives: Giant Domination
This is getting too easy. I know I know, now I am sure I have jinxed the Giants and they will probably go on a 5 game losing streak, but seriously every barricade that stands in front of them they knock down. Now, 9-1 after a 30-10 thrashing of the Ravens on Sunday, the Giants continue to just barrel through opponents.
Mia Missives: Giants/Ravens Preview
OK, so I made it back from Philly in one piece. And the Giants returned unscathed as well. At 8-1 they have a very interesting match up this week with the 6-3 Ravens at home. And as has been the case with Baltimore for many years their defense is one of the best in the league.
Mia Missives: My Philly Adventure
Ok...so everyone said Eagles fans are...how can i put this nicely? Well, I can't so I will just say "psycho." I say it lovingly though. And yes, the fans were loud as heck last night at Lincoln Financial Field and many were standing the whole time, but it wasn't enough to stop the Giants from winning another tough game, 36-31.
Mia Missives: Giants/Eagles Preview
I've only been to Philadelphia a handful of times. Not impressed. And as far as sporting events there, I have only been to a Phillies game at the old Vet. Equally unimpressed.
Mia Missives: Dominating Dallas
The only stars on the field outside of those on the Dallas helmets were all wearing blue jerseys Sunday at Giants Stadium. A 35-14 win over the Cowboys in week 9 lifted the Super Bowl champs to an NFC best 7-1, but the more important number is their 2-0 record in the NFC East.
Mia Missives: Giants/Cowboys Preview
We all thought last week's game was a big game...well now we have an even bigger one on our hands. Yes, the Giants topping the Steelers on the road last week, 21-14 was a huge statement. Nothing wrong with playing mistake free football including a swarming defense that gave QB Ben Roethlisberger a headache to lift you to 6-1. But now the really tough part of the schedule is here.
Mia Missives: Line Play Saves the Day
Gut Check? Check! It was billed as the best match-up of week 8. One that would be an old school hard nosed, grind it out type football game. It was that and more. The Giants showed resiliency, fight and character...
