Albany, NY (WFAN) -- Not a pretty day in Albany. Pouring rains forcing the one practice of the day inside of the Sefcu Arena where they did a walk through type practice that was planned for Tuesday morning. So, weather permitting both of Tuesday's sessions will be regular workouts. But I have checked with my local weather man here and things not looking promising.
The team worked through simulated situations...of course my favorite being "30 seconds left in the game." Where Eli drops back and 'fake' looks off right before "fake" coming back to the left. I think I wrote that play, haha!
Lieutenant Colonel Greg Gadson, the teams inspirational co-captain made his debut at camp. Gadson wore No. 98 for the Army football team and was with the Second Battalion and 32nd Field Artillery. He lost both of his legs to a roadside bomb in Baghdad when he was on his way back from a memorial service for two soldiers from his brigade. That was May 7, 2007. Gadson spoke to the team following practice and coach Coughlin said that Gadson's message to the team was about just that, team. And how when Gadson was in Iraq he was always concerned about the guys around him. He thought the players could use that message as inspiration. And how important the team concept is in all aspects of life. Or something to that effect. I must admit a little was lost in the "coach speak" translation but we got the point which was a good one.
Overall it was a short and light day..but I got first hand that the easy day was much needed. On my way back to the press room, I ran into tight end Kevin Boss who told me that he didn't mind the weather at all. That they needed some rest and every once in awhile it's good to have an easy day like this to catch their breath. He also told me, cause I am an Olympic fan I must admit, that he did like the Olympics. Ok, maybe I should explain why I asked him. I am very curious to know if more women care about the Olympics than men...I think that's true because of the human interest aspect of it plus many fellow sportscasters and other people who work in the biz, many males scoff at this whole Olympic thing. So, returning to my little walk and talk with Kevin Boss, he said that last night in the dorms he was watching the Olympics in Domenik Hixon's room with 4 guys and they were watching Gymnastics. So my tally after today...well more males than I thought were down for some Olympic action..good to know.
Fingers crossed that the players can get back on the field tomorrow. Although they didn't win their 1st preseason game in Detroit last week, Osi Umenyiora was very positive about how they looked and said he thinks this team is ahead of where they were last year and that they were very good. Only other news I've got for ya is that Amani Toomer has a leg injury, non-specific, and would be limited to one practice a day for now.
Praying to the rain gods for a glimmer of sunshine Tuesday.
Mia Missives: Giant Domination This is getting too easy. I know I know, now I am sure I have jinxed the Giants and they will probably go on a 5 game losing streak, but seriously every barricade that stands in front of them they knock down. Now, 9-1 after a 30-10 thrashing of the Ravens on Sunday, the Giants continue to just barrel through opponents.
Mia Missives: Giants/Ravens Preview OK, so I made it back from Philly in one piece. And the Giants returned unscathed as well. At 8-1 they have a very interesting match up this week with the 6-3 Ravens at home. And as has been the case with Baltimore for many years their defense is one of the best in the league.
Mia Missives: My Philly Adventure Ok...so everyone said Eagles fans are...how can i put this nicely? Well, I can't so I will just say "psycho." I say it lovingly though. And yes, the fans were loud as heck last night at Lincoln Financial Field and many were standing the whole time, but it wasn't enough to stop the Giants from winning another tough game, 36-31.
Mia Missives: Giants/Eagles Preview I've only been to Philadelphia a handful of times. Not impressed. And as far as sporting events there, I have only been to a Phillies game at the old Vet. Equally unimpressed.
Mia Missives: Dominating Dallas The only stars on the field outside of those on the Dallas helmets were all wearing blue jerseys Sunday at Giants Stadium. A 35-14 win over the Cowboys in week 9 lifted the Super Bowl champs to an NFC best 7-1, but the more important number is their 2-0 record in the NFC East.
Mia Missives: Giants/Cowboys Preview We all thought last week's game was a big game...well now we have an even bigger one on our hands. Yes, the Giants topping the Steelers on the road last week, 21-14 was a huge statement. Nothing wrong with playing mistake free football including a swarming defense that gave QB Ben Roethlisberger a headache to lift you to 6-1. But now the really tough part of the schedule is here.
Mia Missives: Line Play Saves the Day Gut Check? Check! It was billed as the best match-up of week 8. One that would be an old school hard nosed, grind it out type football game. It was that and more. The Giants showed resiliency, fight and character...
